The Pro League Committee has announced amendments to the 2015/16 season fixture schedule following the confirmation that the Gulf Cup – previously scheduled to take place from 22nd December 2015 until 4th January 2016 in Kuwait – has been cancelled. After holding a coordination meeting with the UAE Football Association on Sunday 25th October, during which it was decided to take advantage of the additional time in the calendar freed up by the cancellation of the Gulf Cup, the fixture calendar has been amended in order to facilitate the scheduling of the majority of matches at weekends and to enable a consistent pattern of League fixtures without any lengthy stoppages between Round 8-Round 22, with the final round of the Arabian Gulf League taking place on 7th and 8th May 2016. Adequate preparation periods for clubs participating in the AFC Champions League and GCC Club Cup competitions from February 2016 have also been factored in. Additionally, the 4th, 5th and 6th rounds of the Arabian Gulf Cup will now be held on 4th & 5th November, 9th & 10th November, and 16th & 17th November respectively.
Round 8 of the Arabian Gulf League will take place on 21st & 22nd November, whilst the first half of the League season will conclude with Round 13 on 24th, 25th & 26th December. The second half of the season will begin with Round 14 on 7th, 8th & 9th January 2016, after the professional clubs begin their President’s Cup participation on 2nd & 3rd January 2016. There is also an additional amendment to the schedule planned in the case that Al Ahli win the 2015 AFC Champions League and participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.
